Evoking those of the Garden Statues
A lot of the time here in the studio, we enjoy coming up with our own ideas for decor, sculptures, and other builds that are available to order for all sorts- from event and home decorators, to businesses looking to liven up their places of work! These concepts and builds usually fit a variety of settings. They’re quick to make, even if it takes some experimenting to find a faster method for certain builds. One interesting one we’ve made recently are our 3D printings of stony statue hands! Meant to be placed on walls, they reach out to hold a variety of things! String lights, vines, streamers, and more! You can even hook your keys on the fingers if you need for something more practical.
The process to make them is fairly simple, and can usually done in batches of up to eight at a time. For the base we begin with a 3D Printing of the hands on our machine. Then, taking those prints, we refine the details down, smoothing the harsher edges a bit more. When that’s done, though, the pieces just look like a grey hand, not particularly appealing on their own. We wanted to evoke the aesthetics of stone garden statues, with a similar texture as well. It’s been difficult to find a proper coating to mimic that same texture, but we ended up choosing an unorthodox approach. With a specific tile & marble repair coating, we can create that same look over the course of multiple coats. The result is a beautiful stone-like finish that hugs the contours of the hand very well, preserving the special details we wanted to keep.
